Shaving with an electric razor is looked at by some as just a way to get a mediocre shave when you are running late. But lately many companies have come up with some innovative designs that are really changing the face of using an electric razor. I am not going to lie to you and tell you that you’re going to get as close a shave when compared to shaving with a traditional razor or straight blade. But you are going to get a very close shave in about a quarter of the time. Electric razors are also great for shaving on the run. Let’s say for instance that it is a Friday and you are going straight from the office to a trendy downtown bar. Are you really going to go into the bathroom fully dressed in a suit and give yourself a full shave? I don’t think so. This is where electric razors shine. You can keep one in your briefcase, car or office and you are ready to get a great shave anytime of day or night.
There are a couple things to remember when using an electric razor. First off just because it doesn’t look like a blade, it still has 2 -4 rotating blades inside of it and if you press it too hard against your skin or go too fast, you can end up cutting your self. So be careful.
Just as with wet shaving it is always good to give your razor a clean canvas to work with. I recommend (if possible) that you cleanse your face prior to shaving with an electric razor. This will clear dirt and oil from your face and give the blades a chance to give you the closest shave possible.
Unlike normal shaving, it is usually best to go against the grain with an electric razor. This allows the hairs to be pushed up so the blades can cut them. If you go with the grain, some of the hairs get pushed against the face and will not get clipped.
If you have a foil razor or one with a long straight cutting surface it is best to use up and down strokes to get the best shave.
If you are using a Rotary razor or one with 2 or 3 cutting circles, it is best to use a circular swirl motion to get the closest shave.
Another way to get an even closer shave with an electric razor is to use and Electric Pre Shave product such as Billy Jealousy Lightning Bolt Electric Shave Solution or Jack Black Electric Shave Enhancer. These products contain ingredients that tighten the skin around the hairs and make them stick up, making it possible to get a super close shave. These products really do work and give you a noticeably closer shave with an electric razor.
